Slimming World Sausage Rolls

Yesterday, I shared with you an update of our air fryer sausage rolls recipe, and today I thought I better make a fresh batch of slimming world sausage rolls, and show you how they compare in the air fryer.

If you haven’t guessed already, ILOVEsausage rolls.

I love the meaty filling. I love the crunchy pastry crust and I am always upset when they are allGONE. I can’t remember when the addiction to sausage rolls started but it’s always been a staple of my diet. Especially for picnics, Christmas, and buffet food.

DON’Tjudge me now, but sausage rolls bought from Iceland frozen was one of the first things I cooked inthe air fryerwhen we bought it.

MOSTof the time I make my sausage rolls myself. Grab some sausage meat, make some homemade shortcrust pastry, and then cook them in the oven.

BUTI had some spare sausage meat left over from a roast dinner a couple of weeks ago and tried them out with some spareWeight Watchers Wraps.

ISERVEDthem to Dominic and the kids for lunch and they thought I was superwoman. They thought I had made homemade sausage rolls because the slimming world version was that good.

I had toCONFESSand mention that I had put some sausage meat inside a Weight Watchers Wrap and that they had just enjoyed a diet version of their favourite sausage rolls.

Well, they allLOVEDthem and asked me when I was going to make them again. And that is when the Weight Watchers Wraps made their way into the Milner kitchen on a regular basis.

Next time you want some sausage rolls but can’t bare the HIGH Syns in them, then thisa slimming world version of sausage rolls and is dedicated toYOU!

Plus, as well as our free newsletter, we also have a free air fryer mini course. It is ideal for air fryer beginners or those that want to get more confident with their air fryer. The free course runs for 5 days with a new lesson delivered each day to your inbox.

Are Sausage Rolls Healthy?

No, unfortunately they are not. A regular sausage roll is full of high calorie pastry, and often the sausage meat used is of low quality and often rather fatty.

Its kind of bit like asking if a chicken nugget is healthy, which of course I wish it was!

Healthy Sausage Rolls With Wraps

Healthy sausage rolls are a yummy alternative to regular homemade sausage rolls. They look like sausage rolls, they taste like sausage rolls, but they are the healthier alternative.

Healthy sausage rolls make two ingredient swaps:

Instead of homemade pastry you are replacing them with WW Wraps. They are loaded with egg wash like you would use in real sausage rolls and have the same crisp to them.

Instead of sausage meat from the butchers, you are using lean pork mince or any lean sausage in its place.

The Idea is that the lean meat is then rolled in the Weight Watchers Wrap and then you can cut them to the shape of the sausage rolls like you would with real ones.

If you look at them here this is what healthy sausage rolls look like side by side with homemade sausage rolls:

How Many Syns In A Weight Watchers Wrap?

A Weight Watchers wrap is one healthy extra B allowance on Slimming World or 6 Syns.

BUT and this is a big BUT when we made some slimming world sausage rolls we don’t use a full wrap.

Just check out this photo for a second of our WW wrap:

Recipe This | Slimming World Sausage Rolls In Air Fryer (4)

The small bits at either side are not going to be used. Therefore you are using ¾ of a wrap with two sausage rolls. That means you can have more than 2 sausage rolls from ONE healthy extra A.

Isn’t that AMAZING?

Or step up your soup game and make our instant pot tortilla soup with the leftover wraps or make our air fryer tortilla chips.

How Many Calories In Healthy Sausage Rolls?

For a bit of fun, I decided to compare the calories between our homemade sausage rolls pastry and these healthy sausage rolls with WW wraps.

It was such a HUGE difference that it even shocked me!

The calories for my shortcrust pastry are 1482 calories. That is from the flour and the butter. This makes enough for three lots of sausage rolls so divide it by three and its 494 per sausage roll.

The calories in a WW wrap are approximately 90 calories because you don’t use a whole wrap and each wrap is 120 calories.

This means that our low calorie sausage rolls pastry vs WW pastry is 494 calories vs 90 calories.

Now that is truly amazing!

Slimming World Sausage Rolls Recipe Ingredients

Meat – I recommend a lean mince (can be pork, lamb, beef, venison etc) and then adding seasoning to it and then shaping it like a sausage. In a similar way to our air fryer lamb koftas. Or you can count syns and use regular shop bought sausage meat.

Wraps – I recommend using WW wraps. They are a Healthy B on Slimming World and work well for a pastry substitute. You cut them to size and then they are like just rolled pastry.

Egg – You need the egg for your egg wash. I have found that you can spray with extra virgin olive oil, but you don’t get the same colour on the SW sausage rolls. Just mix an egg with a fork and use a pastry brush to smoother over the sausage roll.

Seasoning – Then for the seasoning, I love salt, pepper, and some oregano in my sausage rolls meat. But you can mix it up a bit with some sage or some thyme.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this SW sausage roll recipe, it has just been our Air Fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes and perfect for quickly cooking baked goods.

How To Make Slimming World Sausage Rolls?

Then text under changed to:

  • Prep. Your SW sausage rolls start with your meat. If you are using pork mince then load into a bowl, season and then make into a big sausage.
  • Cut. Grab some of your favourite WW wraps and cut so that it is like a big rectangle.
  • Wash. Smoother both sides of the WW wrap with egg wash. Note that if you don’t do this, the wrap will not stick properly. Then use co*cktail sticks to keep in place in the air fryer.
  • Cook. Air fry for 8 minutes at 200c/400f before serving.

How To Make Sausage Meat From Pork Mince?

Making sausage meat from pork mince for SW recipes, is very similar to making a burger or prepping homemade meatballs. You load the mince into a bowl with salt, pepper, oregano, and some garlic powder and mix with your hands.

Then make it in a long sausage and you have your sausage meat!

Or if you want vegetarian sausage rolls for slimming world, then swap the pork mince for quorn mince.

What About Slimming World Party Sausage Rolls?

You follow the exact same process, then at the end of cooking you cut them into party sized sausage rolls.

They will look like these:

I prefer the smaller ones, but you might have your own personal choice. Then once cut up it will feel like you are getting a lot more sausage rolls.
