Happy New Year! It’s time for everybody and their brother to jump on board the “exercise and eat better” bandwagon, right? Right! Well, as cliche as it may seem, I’m jumping into another round of the 21 Day Fix today.Quite honestly, not a lot of it has to do with the fact that it’s January 1…I’ve been needing to (andwanting to)get back into a better regimen of exercise and eating well, but there have been some things in life lately that have kept that from happening. I put it off repeatedly – for good reason, actually – and now it seems like the reason I was putting it off may be the reason I shouldn’t have been putting it off. Ha! That’s clear as mud, I know. Bottom line is, I need a reset on my eating and exercise habits, and 21 Day Fix is a great way to do that!

First things first…what is the 21 Day Fix? I first tried this program two summers ago and saw amazing results. I lost 8 pounds and 7 inches over the first 3 weeks, for a total of 15 pounds and 17 inches over the first 2 months. It’s not so much a “diet program” as it is a lifestyle re-set. I wrote all about my 21 Day Fix Journey here. (No, I’m not a Beachbody coach, and no, I’m not trying to sell you anything. It’s just my honest take on what the experience was like.)

But in any case, as I was looking up new recipes and putting together my meal plan, I found some really amazing looking21 Day FixInstant Potrecipes that I really wanted to try…and I thought they were worth sharing with you! So if you’re jumping into a round of 21 Day Fix, or just looking for some healthy recipes, here’s a great collection of pressure cooker recipes to try. I’ve included the container counts for each recipe for your convenience as you are working on your meal plan.

I love my electric pressure cooker (most people have an Instant Pot, but this is the electric pressure cooker I have), though I’m not as raving mad about it as some people. It works really well for things like soups, stews, and chilis, and makes a terrific pot roast. It’s good for shredded chicken and beef, too. It’s not nearly as fast as people make it out to be, though – the cook time for a pressure cooker is faster than a stove top, but that doesn’t include the time it takes to come to pressure (about 10-15 minutes) plus the time it takes to release the pressure after it’s done (another 5-15 minutes depending on whether you do quick release or natural release). Don’t forget to account for that in your meal prep time. I do think it is a handy appliance to have, so if you have the funds and the storage space for it, I’d recommend it!

In any case, I’m looking forward to adding some of these 21 Day FixInstant Pot recipes to my meal plan this time around. I’ll try to remember to come back and update this post as I try out these recipes. And if you try them, leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Are instant pot meals healthy? ›

Cooking in an “instant pot” or pressure cooker is a great method for preparing your food on many levels — including the nutritional level, according to registered dietitian Beth Czerwony, RD. “Instant pot recipes are absolutely healthy as long as what you put in the recipe is healthy,” she says.

Does instant pot reduce cooking time? ›

Most things cook (at least) 60–70% faster in a pressure cooker than when using any other type of cooking. That doesn't count the prep time of course, or any time the oven, pot, or pressure cooker takes to come to temperature for the food to start real “cooking” though, or “resting” time in the pot for some foods.

Does size of instant pot affect cooking time? ›

Also remember with a larger pot it takes longer to reach pressure. This means the food will be cooking for a longer amount of time. Depending on the type of food you may want to subtract time from the cooking time.

Why shouldn't potatoes be cooked in a pressure cooker? ›

Mostly we boil potatoes in a pressure cooker, but like rice, potatoes also contain a lot of starch. This is the reason why boiling or cooking in this pressure cooker is not considered good for health. If you still plan to use cooker for the same, add a lot of water and wash them thoroughly post cooking.

Is cooking in a pressure cooker unhealthy? ›

Are there side effects to using Instant Pot? ›

Even though some studies suggest that pressure cooking isn't the best way to preserve nutrients in food, no research exists to suggest that pressure cookers of any model or brand pose health risks. If you're a fan of your Instant Pot, don't worry: You can continue to safely use your appliance without worry.

Is Instant Pot Chicken safe? ›

The Instant Pot has the ability to cook chicken pieces straight from the freezer. Unlike other cooking methods, it's safe because the high temperature quickly takes frozen meat past the danger zone (temperatures between 40°F and 140°F, where bacteria are apt to grow).

Can you overcook in an Instant Pot? ›

Unfortunately, once you overcook a piece of meat in the pressure cooker, there's no going back. You'll be left with a pile of dry, crunchy, tasteless fibers and no amount of additional pressure cooking is going to put that moisture back into the meat.

Why am I getting food burn on my Instant Pot? ›

Do not panic if your Instant Pot says "burn." The message means that the sensors have detected that the inner pot is too hot.

What happens if you put too much in an Instant Pot? ›

Overfilling your Instant Pot can affect the pressure that builds up inside, so you might end up with a mushy meal, or one that doesn't cook properly. Also, an overly-full Instant Pot can lead to a clogged pressure release knob, because food and liquid can get sucked up inside.

Can I leave the house while my Instant Pot is cooking? ›

Treat your IP just like you would any other kitchen appliance. We would never suggest leaving the house with any kitchen appliance (including pressure cookers) active. However, many Instant Pot fans on Facebook report that they frequently leave their pot cooking while running quick errands.

Can you open an Instant Pot while under pressure? ›

To play it safe, we recommend waiting for 15 minutes after you've turned your cooker off to open it. This will allow enough time for its internal temperature and pressure to drop to safe levels.

Does Instant Pot destroy nutrients? ›

In addition to making foods like grains and legumes more digestible, pressure cooking does not create any of the unhealthy chemicals associated with baking and grilling methods.
